November

We had a great time in November! We are working hard at learning our letters! We are up to letter 'K' now! We played several different instruments this month. We made finger puppets. Nursery Rhymes have been a big hit this month again. I believe their favorite has been 'Three Little Kittens'. Today we started preparing for Christmas. We each made a baby Jesus in a manger out of dough. We talked about the star that led people to the manger where Jesus was born. We also talked about what it would be like if we were born in a stable instead of a hospital.

I look forward to another fun and exciting month with your children!

Colby Perkes is joining our Preschool!

We are excited to announce that Colby Perkes will be joining our class in January! We look forward to having another friend to learn and play with! We can't wait to get to know you better Colby!

Gavin will be missed!

We will miss Gavin! We sure did enjoy our time with Gavin Shepard! I know the children will miss his creative mind at free play time. I will also miss the things that he taught me. Just today he suggested that I pray to Heavenly Father (I lost one of Sam's cut out mittens.). He said that his mom prayed when she lost her keys. He said "Heavenly Father will help you find the mitten." Sure enough we found Sam's mitten. We will miss you Gavin! You can come and visit anytime.

October Fun

October News

The month of October has zoomed by! You all have such great kids! I have enjoyed being a part of their learning process. It is exciting to see their enthusiasm when we play a new game or watch them as they soak in new information. However my greatest enjoyment has been from watching how they interact with eachother. If you will allow me to be a little bit sappy I just wanted to thank you for intrusting me with your children. Twice this week I noticed every child's eyes on me as I tried to handle certain situations. They were very interested in how I would react and what I would do. Seeing 8 sets of little eyes staring at me humbles me a great deal. I know that teaching is more than just learning the ABC's. I know that at your child's age they are building a foundation of values that they will continue to build upon for many years. I pray that I will be the type of person your child deserves to learn from!

OK enough sappy stuff!! This week has brought us up to letter H. We have also been working on Primary colors this month. We have been learning how to make different colors by mixing paint. I have discovered that your children love Nursery rhymes! I think their favorite has been Hey Diddle Diddle. However they were very fascinated with Baa Baa Black Sheep. (We discussed what the wool from the sheep is used for.)
Thank you for coming to our Halloween Party! It was a little bit chaotic towards the end but I think the kids had a great time. They all looked great in their costumes.

We are working on using the proper grip when writing and coloring. Try to reinforce that at home as well. Also continue to let your kids try and cut paper (with blunt scissors). They really enjoy using scissors.

Cutting with scissors! Oh the concentration!

Shaving cream fun!

Letter 'D' week! (Sept-25th and 27th)

I sure have enjoyed getting to know all of your children better! I can't believe the first month of school is already over! We got a lot of things accomplished this week in what I have come to call 'structured chaos' or in other words preschool. It is interesting to watch the children together in social settings. They are learning a lot just by figuring out how to play and communicate with each other. I hope that your children have shared some of the things we have been doing together. They keep me hopping from one activity to the next that is for sure!
A few things we have done this week:
  • We went digging for dinasours
  • We decorated our preschool room with tye-die wet wipes and bright yellow suns (Gavin said we need to wear sunglasses because of all the painted sunshine so we decided to make a few clouds as well.).
  • We made letter 'D' finders. We searched the school for things that start with the letter D.
  • We learned the nursery rhyme Hey diddle diddle the cat and the fiddle. Lexi started saying the nursery rhyme in the car the other day. I was impressed that she remembered it. Ask your children to say it for you if they haven't already!
  • We found hiding dolls and then played doctor and dentist with our dolls.
  • We talked about dad's shaving cream and even got to play with some on the table! It was a mess but the kids sure did have a fun time!
  • We drew a picture for our dad (it is in their notebooks) We wrote what we liked to do with our dads. I hear that one of the dads (Fredrick) is a master at the yo-yo! Maybe I will call you in for a demonstration!

I look forward to all of the adventures that await us this coming week! Our focus this week will be Letter E, the number 3, and the primary colors (red, yellow, and blue). Remember to let your children point out the letters we have been working on as you read to them. Go on letter hunts through out the house or simply put the letter we are working on for the week on your fridge and discuss it with your child.

*On Thursday, October 25th we will have a Halloween party the last hour of preschool. You are welcome to come and bring your other children as well!

Week of Sept 17th

What a fun week we have had! This week we worked on the letter C the number 2 and the circle shape. On Tuesday we made clown faces. Each child got to cut with scissors. We talked about safety with scissors and how we should hold them if we are not using them. Let them demonstrate and see if they remember! We also learned how to make a 'C' shape with our hand and with our body. Ask your children to show you! We looked at a lot of pictures of things that start with C.
Did your children tell you that we went on a magic carpet ride? We looked at a map and decided we wanted to visit South America and also the North Pole. We saw lots of things on our way there. We put sun screen on in South America. We saw lots of different animals. We had to put on coats and gloves when we stopped off at the North pole! We even got off our magic carpet to visit Santa at his toy shop. We almost left Noah at the North Pole but he jumped back on the carpet just before we took off. We landed back in Texas safely- just in time for snacks!
We also had a puppet show with a clown who had lost his mom. We had to ask each puppet for help. Finally the duck new where the clown's mom was!

On Thursday We played musical mats. Ask your child if they got grabbed by the crocodile? The children tried to cross my swamp without getting grabbed by the crocodile. Ella and Connor willing let the crocodile get them several times (in fact they would run and jump in the crocs lap). I guess they enjoyed the tummy tickles (it was a nice croc). We also painted a caterpillar. We mixed the primary colors to see what other colors we could make.
We talked about the number two. Have them point out the parts of their body that comes in pairs. Many of them learned a new word. Ask them to point to their Nostrils.
We also did a color mixing experiment outside. We watched colors run together when we sprayed the coffee filters with water.

Over all we had a great time together! Make sure you point out things that start with C this week. Practice the C sound with them. Let them practice cutting with blunt scissors at home.

Sam thanks for cleaning up outside and in the garage! You did such a great job without even being asked!

Next week we will have fun discussing the letter D. We will also review # 0,1,2. Our color for the week will be yellow. We will also learn the Nursery rhyme - Hey Diddle Diddle.

Plans for this week! (Sept.11 and 13th)

Letter B Number 1 Color Blue

  • We will continue to work on items for our "About Me" booklet. (I will put most of the art work into your children's binders.) We will have fun painting our feet and hands. We will play a game called guess Who's hands and feet.
  • This week we will be working on the letter B! We will play ball, put on a ballet, color butterflies, go on a bug hunt, sort buttons, play bus driver, bake cookies, read books, blow bubbles from a cup, blow up balloons.... so many things to do with the letter B!
  • We will count pennies and practice writing number one.
  • Blue is the color of the week! We will paint with different shades of blue. We will also find as many things as we can that are blue at preschool.

Our 1st Week of Preschool!

We had such a great time exploring our new surroundings this week! We played games and did crafts. We explored the back yard and discovered the fun of mixing bubbles and water.
We also worked on the letter A. The children learned that Ants and Apples started with A. Your children were a little shy about putting on a puppet show, however, by the end of the day we saw several versions of Little Red Riding Hood! We also talked about the color red. The children followed directions and created their own ladybug. Each child also created their own painted masterpiece. We did a lot in two days!
